On Saturday, April 9, 2011, renowned director Sidney Lumet died at his home in Manhattan from lymphoma. He was 86. He is survived by his wife, Mary Gimbel, two daughters, nine grandchildren and a great grand child.
Lumet has directed over 40 films including “12 Angry Men”, “Dog Day Afternoon”, “Serpico”, “Network” and “The Verdict”. He was nominated for the Oscars five times but never won. Although he never won an Oscar himself, Lummet directed 17 Oscar nominated performances. In addition, Lumet received an Academy Award for lifetime achievement in 2005.
