I’m Famous…on the Internet

Remember that song from the 80’s “Video Killed the Radio Star”? Well more and more each day it seems like the internet is killing the television star. Let’s face it, many of us are getting our news and entertainment from the internet. Many people have been using this to propel themselves into show business or another profession. Want in on it? Read on.

The key to internet notoriety and fame is to figure out what you want to be famous for. Do you want people to know you as a professional and hard hitting journalist or a passionate sexy dancer? Do you want people to think of you as an awkward, strangely charming comedian or a down to earth rap superstar?

coppercab, an internet celebrity on YouTube, wants you to know gingers have souls.

Once you figure out who you want to be and what you want to achieve with this persona, it’s time to get to work. Build a website and join as many social networking sites as you can such as Facebook and Twitter. You should also join social networking sites that fit your niche. For example, musicians and rappers can and should join sites such as reverbnation or soundclick. Post lots of content including articles to help gain a fan base. Respond to every comment and thank them for their support or interest.

As much I hate to say this, pretend you’re a pimp and whore yourself out. You need to publicize yourself as much possible. As I said previously, post lots of content and update your website and social networking profiles constantly. Go to events, appear on another person’s websites, do whatever you need to do (legally) to let your presence be known.

Although it may not seem like it, it’s going to take months, maybe even years before you achieve total internet fame. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your internet empire. You have to be willing to work at it.

Note: One person who has been working hard to achieve success through the internet is a friend of mine, rapper AJG. Since the blog has been doing well, I decided to take this opportunity to help him out. He’s entered into a contest to record and perform with Brisco in Miami. All you need to do is follow this link and vote for his single every day. (Be sure to rate it a 5.) You can vote via Facebook and Twitter.
