How to Prevent STDS Like A Porn Star

Porn stars may not seem like the most wholesome people, but at least they know to be safe when it comes to sex. (I guess in that kind of work you have to be.) I saw an article around a month ago on CNN.com and decided to share it with you all in addition to writing an original piece. To view the article, go here http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/05/19/std.protection.ep/index.html?iref=obnetwork. To read what I have to say, keep reading.

You may not be having sex as much as a porn star or with as many people, but it’s just as important to practice safe sex and to take preventative measures against sexually transmitted diseases. Although you may not have a disease, someone your having sex with might. Or someone they’re having sex with might. You never know.

Here are a few things you can do to prevent sexually transmitted diseases:

ALWAYS use a Condom: When you go to preform vaginal, anal and even oral sex, a condom should be worn every time. Make sure the condom is the right size and doesn’t have any holes or tears. Also make sure that it hasn’t expired yet. Doctors and physicians also recommend you use a latex or polyurethane if you are allergic.

Get Vaccinated: Diseases such as Hepatitis B and HPV can be avoided by simply getting a vaccine.

Know Your Partner’s Sexual History: Ask your partner about how many partners they have had. Ask them if they’ve ever had a sexually transmitted disease. Of course, your partner may lie or may not even know if he or she has a disease, so it is important to only have sex with people you trust.

Have Your Partner Tested: If you’re not sure you trust your partner, have him or her tested before you have sex. If you don’t want to seem pushy or untrusting, get tested with him or her.

Avoid Risky Sex Practices: Avoid sexual acts that break or tear the skin. Even the tiniest cut can be a portal for germs to enter. Having anal sex, group sex, sex with an infected person and swapping body fluids with someone infected could also cause you to contract an STD.

Be Abstinent: The best way to not contract an STD is to not to have sex.

Get Tested: If you are having sex, get tested regularly. If you want to be as safe  as the porn stars in the article, get tested at least once a month. If not, just get tested about 3 to 4 months or when you feel you need it. Keep in mind STD testing isn’t as bad as it may seem. You either take a urine or blood test and it’s completely confidential.
